These examples check inference, word choice and two-step number work without adding reasoning subjects that are outside this stage. English Task 1 of 4 ### “Ivo checked the platform clock again. In his pocket, the concert ticket had become damp and creased.” Which inference is best supported? Checking the clock again and handling the ticket suggest anxious waiting. The other claims are not supported. Maths Task 2 of 4 ### The mean of four numbers is 18. Three of them are 12, 17 and 21. What is the fourth? The total must be 4 × 18 = 72. English Task 3 of 4 ### Choose the sentence in which “their” is used correctly. Their shows possession: the lunches belong to the children. The other sentences need they’re or there. Maths Task 4 of 4 ### A rectangle is 9 cm long and 4 cm wide. A 3 cm by 2 cm rectangle is cut from one corner. What area remains? The whole area is 9 × 4 = 36 cm². The removed piece is 3 × 2 = 6 cm².
