How to play Pip Dash

  1. Read the sum at the top, such as 7 × 8.
  2. Three answer gates race down three lanes.
  3. Tap or drag Pip into the lane with the right answer.
  4. Chain right answers to push your combo to × 5.

What your child learns

It is a quick times tables game and a times tables race game, with traps that punish guessing. These are the KS2 skills it practises.

  • Times tables recall from 2 × 2 to 12 × 12
  • Speed of recall
  • Spotting near-miss answers

Real examples from the game:

7 × 8 = ?56 (traps: 49, 64)
12 × 3 = ?36
9 × 6 = ?54
11 × 7 = ?77

Levels and difficulty

One 42-second run with no lives, so every child can play to the end. The wrong lanes are close traps, such as one table up or down, so fast guessing does not work.

Pip moves your child up when they are ready and eases off when they struggle. Each run is short and focused, so it fits before school or homework.

Tips for parents and teachers

  • Play two runs in a row and compare scores, a fun way to show progress.
  • If a fact keeps tripping your child up, say it aloud together three times after the run.
  • Speed games suit the Year 4 multiplication tables check, which gives six seconds per question.
