What is adaptive learning?
Adaptive learning is practice that changes in response to a learner’s evidence. Pip uses three layers: the right question for each skill, the right skill to practise next and the right time to bring it back for review.
Pip Pro adds a fuller plan towards 11+ or SATs exam day.
How does adaptive learning work?
There is a starting point, then a loop: answer a question, update that skill’s Pip Score and choose the next challenge. Pip can step back to a building block when a child gets stuck and set a check-back time for each skill.
The Pro plan also weighs gaps, evidence, recency and the exam date.
What are the benefits of adaptive learning?
It can make practice more relevant: a child can move ahead in a strong skill without being pushed ahead in every subject, while weaker or less-explored areas remain visible. Pip gives answer feedback and a clearer view of progress; no app can guarantee an exam result.
What is the difference between adaptive learning and personalised learning?
“Personalised” can mean a family has chosen a goal or path. “Adaptive” means the challenge and practice route respond to evidence.
Pip uses both: the family selects 11+, SATs or both, while answers and practice history help shape the next step and when to revisit it.
Can adaptive learning help with 11+ maths and reasoning?
Pip tracks progress skill by skill across 11+ maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. A child can receive a different level of challenge in each skill, step back to a building block when stuck and return for review.
Pro adds the plan towards exam day.
How does Pip choose what my child should practise next?
Pip uses the updated Pip Score to set the next question's level, then considers gaps, low evidence and when a skill needs review. If the child is stuck, it steps back to a building block.
Pip Pro adds a short lesson and a full study plan towards the child's 11+ or SATs exam date.
Does the same adaptive plan apply to KS2 SATs?
Yes. SATs practice adapts objective by objective, brings topics back for review and, with Pip Pro, plans towards SATs week.
The 11+ and SATs tracks stay separate, so a SATs-only child only sees SATs content.
What happens when my child gets stuck?
Pip eases the question level or steps back to the building-block skill underneath. Once the child is ready, it returns to the original skill rather than repeating the same question at them.
With Pip Pro, Pip can also offer a short Pip Teaches lesson.
Does Pip help my child remember, not just learn?
Yes. Each skill gets a check-back time.
Strong skills return less often and shaky ones sooner, so practice includes review before learning fades.
Does Pip use AI or collect my child's data?
Pip’s adaptive decisions run on your child’s device, without an AI chatbot analysing their answers. We do not sell their learning data.
Linking a learner to a Pro parent account can sync practice to that account, but that is separate from how Pip chooses the next question. Read the privacy policy.
How does Pip know how hard a question is?
Every question type has a difficulty that is checked before it reaches your child. Pip uses that difficulty with the child’s skill progress to aim for a challenge that stretches them without making practice feel impossible.
Does my child have to subscribe to try Pip?
No. Pip is free to download, and every child gets adaptive practice, step-back help and review reminders.
Pip Pro adds the exam-date study plan and Extreme challenges. Parent accounts are optional.
