FSCE 11+ Past Papers: Are There Any?

No, there are no official FSCE 11+ past papers. Reading School and Lancaster Girls' both say FSCE has authorised no past papers and no practice papers, so any "FSCE exam papers" or test papers for sale are unofficial. Below are the free practice papers, sample questions and mock test steps that do exist.

FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise) says its test content changes every year, so there is no back catalogue to release. This guide covers what is official, what to use instead, and how to run a mock test at home. For the test itself, see our FSCE 11+ explained hub.

If your child is in Year 5 now, they sit FSCE in 2027 for September 2028 entry, and Year 4 children sit in 2028. The newest official guides are the 2027-entry versions, written for children who sat in 2026, so check your school's page for a newer one before you start.

TL;DR
  • FSCE past papers do not exist. The schools say no past or practice papers are authorised.
  • The only official material is the free familiarisation guide on each school's website.
  • Test content changes every year, so even a guide's sample questions may not appear.
  • Free next steps: our FSCE-style practice paper and practice questions.
  • Paid "FSCE papers" are unofficial. Check the guide first.

Are there FSCE 11+ past papers?

No. Reading School's admissions policy says there are no "practice papers" or "past papers" available. Chelmsford County High School's policy says the same about practice papers, and adds that a familiarisation paper will be on its website.

Lancaster Girls' goes further in its FAQ for parents: no commercial 11+ books or past papers are endorsed by FSCE, and no tutor, website or company can claim to know what the test will contain. The Reading and Lancaster children's guides call themselves the only genuine resource produced for the FSCE entrance test.

So when a search result promises "FSCE past papers", it's a practice product from a third party, not a paper a child sat in a previous year.

FSCE PRACTICE MATERIAL What exists, in the order to use it Official FSCE past papers None released. The schools say there are no past or practice papers. 1 Official familiarisation guide Free on the school's website. Real sample questions and the sample audio. 2 Free FSCE-style practice paper Unofficial English and maths PDF, built for the format. 3 Your own timed mock at home Black biro, no calculator, no scrap paper, a timer. Practise the day.

Why doesn't FSCE release past papers?

The schools give two reasons: the test changes every year, and a free guide for everyone keeps things fair. Chelmsford's FSCE information says test content changes every year, so the guide is not definitive and a question type appearing in it does not guarantee it will appear on the day.

Lancaster's FAQ describes its guides as there to inform, build familiarity, reduce anxiety and ensure fairness. We couldn't find FSCE or any member school publishing a fuller reason, so treat anything more detailed as a guess.

They're unofficial FSCE-style papers, written by publishers or tutors from the public guides. Some are well made and useful for stamina. None are real FSCE papers, and none can tell you what this year's questions will be.

Before you pay, check three things: does it say it is unofficial, does it match your school's variant (some FSCE schools sit four papers, some two), and is it adding anything beyond the free guide? If the answer to the last one is no, skip it.

What are the best free FSCE practice papers and sample questions?

Start with the official guide, then add free practice that matches its style. This is the order we'd use.

Worth doing

  • Reading the official guide with your child
  • Practising the answer sheet in black biro
  • Timed practice on KS2 English and maths

Not worth it

  • Treating any paper as a prediction
  • Buying a pack before reading the free guide
  • Using GL or CSSE papers as a stand-in

How do you run an FSCE mock test at home?

Copy the conditions, not the questions. Set up a desk, a black biro and a timer, and use the official sample questions plus our practice paper as the content.

  • Black biro only. No pencils, rulers or calculators, and no scrap paper, as on the test day.
  • Use a recorded voice. FSCE gives instructions by audio. Play the school's sample audio, or record yourself saying "you have ten minutes, begin".
  • Rehearse the answer sheet. Practise shading and boxes with the answer sheet guide.
  • Match your school's length. Lancaster's FAQ says each of two papers typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Other schools haven't published lengths, so don't assume.
  • Answer every question. The official guide says wrong answers don't lose marks.

Don't mark it like an exam and don't compare scores to a pass mark. FSCE schools set their own, as our pass mark guide explains.

Want practice that adapts? Pip sets English and maths at your child's level, with lessons, progress tracking and as much practice as you like.

Does Pip have an FSCE mock test?

No, not an FSCE one. Pip's full mock tests cover seven real exam formats (Kent, Buckinghamshire, CSSE, Medway, Sutton, ISEB and GL), and FSCE isn't one of them, because FSCE publishes no papers to copy. Pip is not affiliated with FSCE.

What Pip does is build the English and maths FSCE draws on, up to the end of Year 5, with adaptive practice, lessons and progress tracking. The timed mocks are optional Pip Pro. They're useful for stamina and pace, not for predicting FSCE questions.

Pro tips

Read the guide aloud together. The official guides are written for children. Reading one together takes the mystery out of the answer sheet.

Spot the variant. The papers your child sits depend on the school. Reading's four papers (Adventure, Beacon, Compass, Discovery) differ from Lancaster's two, so check before you practise. The four papers guide explains each.

Ignore the "leaked paper" claims. The reality is that no one outside FSCE knows the questions, and the schools say so. Save your money.

Frequently asked questions

Are there FSCE 11+ past papers?+

No. Reading School and Lancaster Girls' both say there are no past papers or practice papers authorised by FSCE. The only official material is each school's free familiarisation guide, which has sample questions.

Are there free FSCE past papers?+

There are no free FSCE past papers, because none have been released. Free official sample questions sit in the schools' familiarisation guides, and Pip has a free FSCE-style practice paper PDF that is not an official paper.

Are FSCE practice papers and mock tests worth buying?+

They can build exam stamina, but they are unofficial. Lancaster's FAQ says no tutor, website or company can claim inside knowledge of what the FSCE test contains, and the content changes every year. Start with the free official guide before you pay for anything.

Where can I get FSCE sample questions?+

In the free familiarisation guides that Reading School, Lancaster Girls' and Chelmsford County High School each publish on their websites. The latest are for 2027 entry, so look for a newer version if your child sits in 2027.

Can I do an FSCE mock test at home?+

Yes, you can build one yourself. Use a black biro, no calculator or scrap paper, a timer and the official sample questions plus a practice paper. Treat it as a way to practise the format, not as a prediction of the real papers.

Why doesn't FSCE release past papers?+

The schools say test content changes every year and that the guides are not definitive. Giving every child the same free guide is also meant to keep the test fair.

Is the FSCE the same as the old GL or CSSE past papers?+

No. FSCE writes its own papers for each school and does not use GL Assessment or CSSE formats, so GL or CSSE past papers will not match it.
