Times Tables Battleships

Times Tables Battleships is a multiplication game where children pick a square on the grid and answer row × column to fire at the boss fleet. It suits years three to six, and the later seas hide a number so children have to divide.

What your child learns

Think multiplication battleships: a battleships maths game where every shot is a times table fact. These are the KS2 skills it practises.

  • Times tables to 12 × 12
  • Division as the inverse of multiplication
  • Reading grid coordinates

Real examples from the game:

Row 7, column 856
Row 9, column 654
Row 6, product 48: which column?8
Column 12, product 84: which row?7

Levels and difficulty

Sea 1, the Harbour, uses tables 2 to 9 and Sea 2 goes up to 12, each with eight seconds per shot. Sea 3 hides the column numbers, so children work out product ÷ row, and Sea 4 hides the rows.

The boss is the Quizzler.

Pip moves your child up when they are ready and eases off when they struggle. Each run is short and focused, so it fits before school or homework.

Tips for parents and teachers

  • Start your child on Sea 1, even if they are confident, so they learn the grid.
  • On the hidden-number seas, ask "what times 6 makes 48?" to link the division to a fact.
  • Paper battleships with times table grids is a great screen-free follow-up.
