Levels and difficulty
A run is three 30-second rounds. Round 1 is an easy rule such as even numbers or multiples of 5, and round 2 keeps the rule with numbers that sit closer together.
Round 3 changes to a hard rule, such as primes, squares or factors of 24, then a five-second final rush ends the run.
Pip moves your child up when they are ready and eases off when they struggle. Each run is short and focused, so it fits before school or homework.
Tips for parents and teachers
- Learn the primes to 20 by heart first: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17 and 19.
- Point out that 1 is not prime and 2 is the only even prime, the two catches children miss most.
- Square numbers are easier once your child knows 1 × 1 to 12 × 12, so pair this with a times tables game.

Years 3 to 6, within KS2 (ages 7 to 11). The game adapts, so it suits a wide range of children.

Yes. The demo works in Safari on iPad, and the full game is in the Pip app for iPad, iPhone, Android and Fire tablets.
What is a prime number in KS2?+
A prime number has exactly two factors, 1 and itself, so 7 is prime and 9 is not. Children meet primes and square numbers in Year 5.
Is 1 a prime number?+
No. 1 has only one factor, so it is not prime, and Pip Catch counts a caught 1 as wrong on a prime round.
