How to play Fact Family Forge

  1. Drag across three touching blocks that make a family.
  2. For example 4, 9 and 36: 4 × 9 = 36, so forge it.
  3. A ? block is a missing number: pick it for double points.
  4. Chain families fast to build HEAT before the minute ends.

What your child learns

Every fact family it forges gives all four facts, so it practises multiplication and division fact families together. These are the KS2 skills it practises.

  • Multiplication and division fact families
  • Times tables to 12 × 12
  • Missing numbers

Real examples from the game:

4, 9, 364 × 9, 9 × 4, 36 ÷ 4, 36 ÷ 9
6, 8, 486 × 8, 8 × 6, 48 ÷ 6, 48 ÷ 8
7, ?, 639
2, 15, 302 × 15 = 30

Levels and difficulty

Each run is 60 seconds on a 5 × 5 board, which always has at least two families to find. Fast chains build the HEAT combo, and lines that fuse after a drop cascade for bonus points.

Pip moves your child up when they are ready and eases off when they struggle. Each run is short and focused, so it fits before school or homework.

Tips for parents and teachers

  • After a run, pick one family and write out all four facts together.
  • Blocks can join in any direction, including diagonally, so encourage your child to scan the whole board.
  • Fact families make division far less scary: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
