Not every provider that uses the word "mock" delivers that. We looked at eight real, currently operating services from in-person test-centre days to apps and self-marked practice packs, and checked what each one actually offers before ranking them.

At 70 pounds for an in-person sitting (or 35 pounds virtual) it is also one of the cheaper one-off options here. The catch is that this is a seasonal, regional service, so availability depends on where you live and what time of year it is, and we could not independently verify a review score for the company.

Bond is one of the best-known names in 11+ prep books, and Bond Online extends that into a timed, instantly marked online mock test platform at the lowest subscription price on this list. Premium Plus adds ISEB Common Pre-Test aligned content. The weak point in our research was review evidence: the only Trustpilot profile we could find for the site showed a low score from a very small number of reviews, which is not enough to responsibly judge service quality either way, so treat that figure as a flag to investigate further rather than a verdict.

It is worth including GL Assessment for context, since every other provider on this list is trying to imitate its question style. GL offers free familiarisation PDFs and sells paid practice-paper booklets directly, and nobody can match it for authenticity of format. But it does not offer anything resembling a marked, scored mock exam to parents: no timing enforcement, no marking service, no percentile. Treat GL's own materials as the gold-standard reference for what the real questions look like, and get the actual mock experience (timing, marking, benchmarking) from one of the other providers above.

What actually makes something a real 11+ mock exam, rather than just practice papers?+
A genuine mock exam is sat under timed, exam-realistic conditions using the same format as the target test (GL Assessment, CEM/Cambridge or ISEB), then marked and scored, ideally with a percentile or standardised score showing how the child did relative to other candidates. Practice papers a child completes casually at home, even good ones, are useful revision but are not the same as a mock: the timing discipline and the comparative score are what turn a practice paper into a mock exam.
Is GL Assessment's own practice material a mock exam?+
No. GL Assessment, the exam board itself, offers free familiarisation PDFs and sells paid practice-paper booklets, and both are excellent for seeing the real question style since GL writes the live test. But neither is marked, scored or timed by GL, so there is no service-provided score or percentile. For an actual mock experience, you need one of the dedicated mock providers, not the exam board's own materials.
Is an in-person mock exam day worth it, or is an online mock enough?+
In-person mock days (like chuckra 11 plus or Eleven Plus Exams' in-person option) most closely replicate the real exam-hall pressure: unfamiliar room, invigilators, other children, a strict clock. That is valuable for nerves and stamina, especially in the run-up to the actual test. Online mocks are more convenient and often cheaper, and still deliver useful timed, marked practice, but the child is usually sitting at their own kitchen table, which is a different experience from a hall full of strangers. Many families use online mocks regularly through the year and add one or two in-person sittings closer to the exam.
How much should I expect to pay for a decent 11+ mock exam?+
Based on what we found, one-off in-person mock days run roughly 35 to 70 pounds per sitting (chuckra 11 plus), while ongoing subscription platforms with mock tests included range from around 7.50 pounds a month (Bond Online's entry tier) up to 70 pounds a month (Atom Learning's top tier), with several options in between around 15 to 40 pounds a month. Self-administered practice paper packs (Exam Papers Plus / Pretest Plus) are typically bought individually or in bundles rather than as a subscription.
Does a percentile or standardised score actually matter?+
It matters more the closer you get to the exam. A raw mark out of 100 tells you almost nothing on its own, since paper difficulty varies. A percentile or standardised score tells you how your child's result compares with other children who sat the same or a similar paper, which is far more useful for judging genuine readiness for a specific school's cut-off. Of the providers here, Eleven Plus Exams, chuckra 11 plus and Atom Learning all provide some form of comparative score; several of the app-based options do not.
Can an app like Pip or ExamHappy replace an in-person mock exam day?+
Not entirely. App-based mock papers are genuinely useful for regular, low-friction timed practice and instant feedback between bigger sittings, and they are usually far cheaper per use than a proctored mock day. But most of the apps we reviewed do not provide a percentile or standardised score against a wider cohort of test-takers, and none replicate the pressure of an unfamiliar exam hall.
