Is DoodleMaths any good?
Yes, for the right family. DoodleMaths is an adaptive maths app aligned to the UK curriculum, built around short daily sessions that fill gaps, with English, spelling and times tables in sister apps.
It's best for a steady maths habit from Year 1 to Year 6. If your child is heading for the 11+ or KS2 SATs, a dedicated app such as Pip is the better choice.
- Our rating: 4 out of 5 (editorial)

Our connection: Pip publishes this review and competes with DoodleMaths for some families. We've tried to be fair: DoodleMaths' strengths are real, and Pip is a different kind of product.
This review is based on DoodleMaths' own pages and its App Store listing checked on 6 October 2026, not a hands-on test. Features and prices change.

What is DoodleMaths and what does it cover?
DoodleMaths is an adaptive primary maths app from DoodleLearning, aligned to the EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3 curriculum for ages 4 to 14. Its Proxima adaptive technology builds personalised programmes for each child.
The family also includes DoodleTables, DoodleEnglish and DoodleSpell. The product page says it works on tablets, phones, laptops and desktops, and offline, and the company reports more than 1 million children (a company claim).
How much does DoodleMaths cost in the UK?
The App Store UK listing shows these parent prices (checked 6 October 2026):
The family plan for up to 5 children is £12.99 a month or £119.99 a year, and the product page mentions a 7-day free trial. We found no free tier beyond the trial (unverified), and bundle prices were not captured.
What does DoodleMaths do well?
- Short daily sessions. A small, regular routine is easier to keep going than a big library to browse.
- Gap-filling. The adaptive programme is built to find and fill gaps in a child's maths.
- Parent portal and offline use. Parents can follow progress, and the app works without a connection.
- A family of apps. English, spelling and times tables sit alongside maths, at a price well below tutoring.
What should UK parents know before buying DoodleMaths?
- Maths-led. The product page lists SATs support, but we found no 11+ programme, verbal or non-verbal reasoning, or 11+ English (unverified absence).
- Exam-style papers. We did not find full exam-style papers, so families aiming for selective schools usually add a dedicated resource.
- Check the plan. Confirm which apps your plan includes and the billing period before you subscribe.
Who is DoodleMaths best for?
DoodleMaths suits children in Years 1 to 6 who need a steady daily maths habit, SATs support, or confidence building. For a wider library across subjects, look at IXL.
For the 11+ or KS2 SATs, look at Pip or Atom Learning. The full list is in our 7 best DoodleMaths alternatives.
How does DoodleMaths compare with Pip?
DoodleMaths is a daily maths routine for the whole of primary school, and Pip is a focused adaptive app for Years 3 to 6 preparing for the 11+ and KS2 SATs.
| DoodleMaths | Pip 11+ Practice | |
|---|---|---|
| Age range | Ages 4 to 14 (EYFS to KS3) | Years 3 to 6 |
| Subjects | Maths; English, spelling and tables in sister apps | 11+ Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning; KS2 SATs track |
| How practice is chosen | Proxima adaptive programme with short daily sessions | Adaptive engine picks level, next skill and review time |
| Teaching | Gap-filling programme | Pip Teaches interactive lessons (Pro), coach hints, Ask Pip |
| Motivation | Daily routine | Pip Score, boss battles, coins, Pip's Den, Learning Grove |
| Price (checked 6 Oct 2026) | £7.99 a month or £69.99 a year (one child) | Free; Pro £9.99 a month or £69.99 a year, 7-day trial |
| Works on | Phones, tablets, laptops and desktops | iOS, Android, Amazon (no desktop or web yet) |

Pip adapts the question level inside each skill, chooses the next skill from gaps, brings skills back for review, and offers to go back a step to a building block when a child is stuck. Its coach hints teach the method without giving the answer.
Pip's one downside is that it runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and Amazon Fire tablets only, with no desktop or web version yet.
Is DoodleMaths worth it? Our verdict
DoodleMaths earns 4 out of 5 from us as a daily maths routine, and it's the better pick for younger children or a steady habit across primary school.
Choose Pip instead, or alongside it, when the goal is the 11+ or KS2 SATs in Years 3 to 6 and your child uses a phone or tablet.
